Mapungubwe
A thousand years ago, the steamy Limpopo Valley was a hive of activity. Southern Africa’s first kingdom was in full swing, with over 5 000 people living in Mapungubwe. Here, where the Limpopo and Shashe rivers meet, people were manufacturing beautiful artifacts of gold, iron and copper; and hunting elephant for ivory.

The Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park
The roads may be long, the distances vast, but growing numbers of travelers are heading into the Kruger National Park via Phalaborwa Gate in Limpopo province, and driving across the park to Girriyondo Gate, a fairly recently opened border post into Mozambique’s Limpopo National Park.
