Monthly reports

These reports analyse monthly foreign tourist arrivals to South Africa (provided by Statistics South Africa). They contain a regional perspective of South African Tourism's four portfolios, i.e. Africa & Middle East, Asia & Australasia, Europe, and the Americas.

Quarterly reports

These reports provide an inbound view of foreign tourist arrivals to South Africa over a quarter. The analysis includes volume, mode and purpose of travel; spend behaviour and trip type, travel patterns, including length of stay and provincial distribution. They also contain a regional perspective of South African Tourism's four portfolios, i.e. Africa & Middle East, Asia & Australasia, Europe, and the Americas.

In 2007, South African Tourism undertook a review to analyse its performance between 2002 and 2006. The review showed that we were normalizing the spend data too severely and we have as a result revised this methodology. As a result, we have gone back and revised the quarterly reports of 2003 to 2006 in line with the new methodology.

Annual reports

The Annual Tourism Report annually outlines the state of tourism in South Africa and tracks and monitors the key indicators that measure success and highlight challenges. In 2007, South African Tourism undertook a review to analyse its performance between 2002 and 2006. The review showed that we were normalizing the spend data too severely and we have as a result revised this methodology. As a result, we have gone back and revised the 2003, 2004 and 2005 annual reports in line with the new methodology.

Domestic tourism reports

These reports provide a view of domestic tourism in South Africa. The analysis includes volume, mode and purpose of travel; spend behaviour and trip type, travel patterns, including length of stay and provincial distribution.

Market Segmentation Reports

These reports provide detailed information on the results of the research South African Tourism conducted in each of its key markets to help the trade market South Africa. Each project was initiated in order to understand the whole of the market in each country and not the section we are currently seeing. Against this research, South African Tourism has developed activation plans for each market.

Global competitiveness

The Global Competitive project was a co-operative effort between the departments of Environmental Affairs and Tourism and trade and industry, and South African Tourism and was done in 2003/4. This project gives insight into the drivers and barriers to growing tourism in South Africa in the competitive global arena.
